St. Therese of Lisieux - The Mystics Series (print/poster)

Thérèse of Lisieux might just be the anti-influencer; not because she had no impact, and not because she never wanted it, but because she ultimately came to a place of internal freedom that didn’t need it.

She longed to be out in the world, caring for the broken and spreading love and mercy. “I feel in me the vocation of a Priest,” Thérèse wrote.

But this was forbidden, for she was a woman.

Thérèse hoped to at least be a missionary if she could not be a priest. But tuberculosis had other plans.

Understanding that her life would be cut short, Thérèse pioneered a theology of smallness. Her ideas were so groundbreaking, she was made a doctor of the Church.

But she still believed she could have impact after death - by praying for and acting on behalf of those in need. “My heaven will be spent on earth until the end... I want to spend my heaven doing good on earth,” she wrote.

Thérèse predicted that she would die at age 24, the age she would have been ordained were she male.
She died on September 30, 1897 of tuberculosis.

She was 24 years old.
